Focus on the positive

People call me an optimist. They say I am so positive that I just must be one. I don’t bash people in public, I don’t talk about how horrible my life is and instead I talk about the good in the world and focus on that.

They are totally wrong; I am a realist. I don’t see the glass as half full or half empty. I don’t even see the glass as ensuring the wine breathes better before being consumed. Instead I see the glass as a half a glass. It just is.

Outwardly, however, I focus on the positive. There just is too much negativity in this world today and I don’t want to waste my time focusing on it. Instead of talking about a failed marriage, instead of talking about how the financial burden of raising three kids all alone is going to crush my retirement, and instead of focusing on my ex leaving me to deal with the kids all alone as she drank herself to death, I instead focus on the positive.

Without her, I would not have these three kids. Yes, I would have been married and had kids with someone, but I would not have THESE THREE KIDS, period.

We all have things in life that make us sad, that bring us down, and that make life harder but that doesn’t mean that we need to focus on those things. It’s like an old boss told me “Leave your bummer at home, you are here to work”. My job is to raise my three kids to be better adjusted and smarter than I am, so instead of focusing on the negative (I’m tired, I’m never going to be able to save for retirement, I am the one who gets to take the girls to CVS when they have their first period) I focus on the positive.

I am not saying that you have to do the same as results will vary!
